Question 2004 E53 X5 Rear wiper and washer pump problem

Hi to all, this is my virgin post here at X Outpost, thank you for making it a great forum!

I have a problem with my E53 X5.. Itīs a 2004 3.0d. Heavy winter, my wife tried to turn the rear wiper on but it failed to clear the heavy snow off the rear window. Immediately after this the rear wiper stopped working, the windshield washer pump runs all the time, even if the ignition is switched off, and the front windshield washer is not working either.

What could possibly be the problem??

It's not unknown for the electronic circuit that drives the rear wiper motor to burn out, causing a short in the circuitry and causing the washer to run continuously.

Too late to mention but this is usually caused by trying to run the rear wiper with too much resistance against it...

You need a new wiper motor. Well documented that the circuit board burns out and everything stops. I found a good used one and everything is working fine. Easy to replace yourself if your so inclined
