AVINUSA Has Replaced Lost Radio

I have deleted a previous post in which I complained about China Customs confiscating/misplacing a radio I had returned to Avinusa. I want to report that Avinusa has replaced my radio at no cost to me with a newer model of the one I returned to Avinusa.

I was critical of Avinusa in my previous post and I think it is only fair that I give the company and its technical rep, Tommy Tang, credit for what I think is professional and customer-oriented treatment. The radio I received has several improvements over my previous unit, including a newer version (6.1) of Android and performs much better than my previous Avant-2 unit.

Wow fuck me running.

Now I just 100% decided to buy a Dynavin. I had no clue that for warranty Tommy was not in USA -

Big ole +1

Still not sure which direction I will go, but I am nearly certain that the 1st unit won't be the last. Since I already have an Eonon in the E46, I want to try something else to compare.

I just have no time to deal with possibility of warranty and shipping units myself to China nowadays - Jeff is in the US and full disclosure I do not use Android phones - but for my needs and use in this vehicle, a plug and play unit for DSP, without any further workaround, which will give me navigation, Bluetooth, and a ton more features than I have now, will do just fine for me -

If I didn't have DSP I'd probably do an Eonon or similar, but again the non-US support is what I have a real problem with (although at their price point I wouldn't expect it, but on the $600-700 Dynavin/Avant price point I do expect it)

even if you had declared proper value, you will go through hoops and jumps to get that insc. money IMO....

What option did you choose on your customs declaration form if item was undeliverable. Return to sender or trash it...

It could very well be stuck in customs for 90 days and be returned back to you if you chose return to sender.

Customs could have decided a value, and the recipient has just refused to pay the charge, hence the dilemma you are in. And this scenario I suppose, could have played out the same even if you put proper value.

Here's hoping you have chosen ~return to sender~ on you declaration form

Like a nice (read dumb) guy, I followed Tommy's instructions and listed $1.00 as the value for the Customs Declaration Form. Tommy said put in $0 but the USPS form will not accept $0. Priority Mail is the lowest USPS rate available for shipments of China. Shipment cost $85 and it was uninsured because you can't claim $0 value and then insure it for some other value. Custom guys pick up on that real quick!

Long story short, USPS tracking shows that the package has been in Customs Clearance for 30 days. The length of time the package has been reported to be in Customs facility indicates the package was either destroyed (or possibly installed in a Customs Officers's car! ) I can not claim for the loss under USPS insurance because I reported that the package had no value. So I'm out close to $1000 for the price of the unit, and shipping. And I have a big hole in the dash of my E53.

Moral: Don't be a good guy by helping Avinusa/Tommy Tang avoid paying import duties on your radio. Protect your investment by claiming a realistic value if you have to return your radio for service or any other reason.
Thanks for the reminder advice through your experience. It goes to show that when purchasing high priced electronics from overseas the depth of service and customer handling is just as important a consideration. Over the next couple of years there will be more choices coming from the aftermarket electronics companies such as Alpine, Kenwood, Panasonic, etc. I know this does not help you today but it definitely will help alleviate the headaches of future enthusiasts that decide to go the aftermarket route.

All Might Not Be Lost!

Jsoto,

Thanks for the helpful information. I did check the "Return to Sender" box, and you have given me some hope that my radio might find its way back to my doorstep. I'll definitely be happy to let the Forum know if that happens!

Full disclaimer. I don't know schitz about these type of headunits. I'm more of a Denon DCT...or a Pioneer/Alpine sorta guy.

I goggled Avin though, and the website seems to suggest a USA prescence. What am I amiss

The website might suggest a US presence, but here is where you send Avant-2 radios for repair:

BUILDING 8, 23RD FLOOR, ROOM 2304 XIN'AN
JIEDAO JIN KE LU SHENHANG JIARI MING JU
518102 SHENZHEN GUANGDONG PROVINCE
CHINA

I think Avinusa might use Canada Post as a intermediate delivery agency for some items.

I see. i presume you was not aware they were offshore based before buying...

I can't see myself doing that without a real usa stateside prescence. Even if it was just a ~usa~ official distributor
