Crystal, how often do you top off?
I've never tried 10w50 and lucas
How's that working out for you?

I stumbled upon this thread: valve stem seals smoking temp fix - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums

Until I figure out the suspension and everything related to it, I'll postpone the valve stem steal job until I see how this LiquiMoly Motor oil saver works.
Great reviews across the board on this product and several people reported no more smoke and almost no oil consumption over a 500-800 mile period from the start of the treatment.

I'm gonna try it along with a 5W40 oil and let you guys know if that improves the smoking and the oil consumption.

I know some say it's a temporary band aid but to let it smoke and consume oil is not ideal either.

I usually top off (add a quart) ~twice every oil change depending on how much idling the truck has done. More importantly to me than that is that the truck doesn't smoke unless idling for 10min+ and make me feel like I'm driving a hoopty.

I made the mistake of last oil change using a 10w30 full synth and that smoked like mad... off almost every stop light. I used it for <1000 miles because of that.

Yikes. No smoking here, but I do wonder: I have not had any oil consumption issues on mine. Is oil consumption a problem on other V8's outside of a seals issue? My wife's E46 takes a quart every few weeks, but the i6's are known for this.

Few years back I did a voodoo dance - used some specialized engine cleaner (forgot the name, but it was mentioned in one of the forums), replaced the membranes (they were torn), used LM engine cleaner, and used LM 5-40 oil. At the time of treatment, it significantly reduced the smoking, but with DC traffic, it still smoked on longer delays.
As time passed, the smoking reappeared on shorter idles. I checked the membranes, they both were still intact, and I have used nothing but the LM5-40 oil. so, I think it is time to try a more permanent solution...

Crystalworks, your PM is not accepting new messages... Try to message me your number or email or something, maybe it will work that way..

For 2K, that's a ahmazing price given the work/results. I would jump on it if I had that issue.

Back in early fall, I was at my Indys. Dunno the rhyme or reason, but he just dropped the entire block down with the subframe and goes to town on it.

When the engine was a baby the seals prevented oil smoke and consumption. Now that it is a senior citizen they no longer function as they should. You can temporarily treat the problem with medication so the smoke is less apparent but the seals are sick and dying. While surgery is not necessarily urgent the engine is suffering, and, overtime, even with the medication, the ailment will cause other, perhaps more serious disease.

No doubt the seals are sick like an old smoker's lungs.
I was just trying to eliminate the smoke until I do the front and rear suspension refresh and other miscellaneous. In no way I'm substituting this for a seal replacement.
I was just gonna try it for a few months see how it goes until I'm comfortable dropping more money on it.
Cuz if I'm doing everything at once, it seems like I spend way more than reasonable in a short amount of time.
