MK 4 Nav Drive

OK, so I know the Mk3 can be upgarded to a Mk4 nav drive.
I have seen loads on Ebay....but have not won one yet (hopefully this will not turn into another Bozo experience ).

My question is....are all Mk4 nav drives the same?
Will any BMW Mk4 drive work in an X5?

I don't know if just any MkIV will work in the X5, but I sure as hell have lost out on a lot of ebay auctions for one!

NO! They're Not All The Same!!
Very important to make sure that you see 2 markings on ANY Mk4/Mark4 drive you look at:
1) The White DVD Emblem (If it's not there, the seller is selling a Mk3 or below! I've seen a couple units advertised on Ebay as Mk4, but when questioned, they admit it's not!)
2) The Disk Eject Button must be on the Left-hand side, looking at the front of the unit. If it's on the Right, it WON'T work! (For the recent 7-series I believe- And that unit is "boxier"/ more square. Avoid that model).

Hope this helps. There are pix of the different units in the NAV Articles section.

Additionally, there is a MkIV that looks identical to the one that works in an X5 but is for the e46 with the small monochrome screen (different part number, however). They are NOT interchangable

I as well have lost many MKIV units on eBay.
Hope to score one over the next couple of months, if not I'll just wait until the next gen. X5 goes on sale and the price of the MKIV goes down a bit.
Always ask the seller if it is indeed a MKIV before bidding.
