M62 oil filter housing question

I was changing my oil filter today and noticed this.
At the top of the "stem" that goes inside the oil filter,
there is an odd shaped oring.
Mine looks old and isn't rubbery anymore.

I looked at real oem and can't find a part number for just that oring.
It that a replacement item?

It should come with your filter.. hopefully you are using Mann filters.. they come with every gasket included in the kit.

Okay, I didn't know what that oring was for.
We are talking about the upper most oring on top
of the drain back tower, aren't we?

Any O-rings needed should come with filter.

I think the OE poster is referring to the #22 part on this chart

RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog
the 7 series image is the only one that shows the center filter drain back tube.

Just the image is there. NPN is listed. This has been posted before but for trying I can not find the O ring PN that is on the top of that center support listed anywhere.

If you want #22...you need to look at the 1995 model year e38s m60 & m73 engine's diagrams because they had removable support towers in their oil filter reservoirs...which were upgraded to permanent towers.

But there's still no gasket or O-ring that's purchased separately.

I removed my tower this evening.
It unthreads right out.
Easier to wipe it clean in side the canister.
