One other thing on 4.8 is those with Pano roof...good luck and take out a second mortgage if that goes out at same time as valve stem seals fail

I agree, it's just playing catch up to get it to that point. Right now I have too many lurking issues to want to make it my daily plus my jeeps are cheaper and easier to maintain. Would rather keep the mileage low on the X and use it for canyon blasting and the occasional outing. Goal for this winter is to tear down the motor and do the guides and some other stuff.

All great insights. Thanks. I won't be using this as a DD, but I would like to be able to rely on it if I want to road trip to the beach.

ON a separate note, I've been talking with this one: https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/cto/6110065672.html

Im thinking of having a PPI done up there, before committing to fly up. Anyone have shop recommendations in the area? Or should i just do a local dealer PPI?

That one is a damn good deal considering everything was done properly.

Yes that looks like a good one for the money because all of the work has been done. Plus its a board member enthusiast that has done the right maintenance to the vehicle. As another reassurance there are a number of V8 X5 enthusiasts that have gotten well over 200K+ miles from their X5. They have done the maintenance to get them to that realm.

We've been in communication, wish I was closer to really check it out. There is a California car which I'm going to do a PPI on, it's also had big ticket items done, notably the TCG, valley pan, cooling system, etc and it's at 108k, so I'm going to try and vet this one as it's only a few hours from me. With the amount of $ that goes into these builds, we'll never see the money back, not like the classics. Have to proceed at your own comfort level. Appreciate all the input. FWIW, you've answered the question of 4.6 vs 4.8. Thank you.

You'll enjoy your choice they are fun to drive and rewarding. Better than any other SUV that I have tried. Plus the silver color one that you mention is a great color combination. I have the black Sapphire metallic one and love it. Be sure to post pictures once you get it.
