Bay Area, CA recommendations to replace window regulator?

Preferably in Livermore, but willing to go anywhere from San Jose to Stockton. Any local mechanics willing to do side jobs?

It's a really simple diy, I would get the part and attempt it myself. Save yourself the better part of 200$.

Agreed. And if it helps in the financial analysis, you might assume you'll be replacing the other 3 before long. So it might be worth it for you to spend a little effort to figure out how to do it carefully yourself - not hard, plenty of info on this site for this extremely common repair.

Hey There! I live in Livermore and just purchased a 2002 e53 X5 about 10 days ago. The front passenger window regulator died almost immediately and I just repaired it last weekend so I'm pretty familiar with the process. I've previously also done a regulator repair on my 530i.

I'd be willing to help you through the repair / do most of it for the price of a nice 12 pack. The regulator clips are so cheaply made that I agree with the others here, it's a really good thing to know how to do yourself.

Feel free to PM me. Otherwise, I've had good success with Eurotech in Livermore for repairs in the past, but I do most all of my work myself these days.

My window regulator is fine, but the problem is the window regulator clip like in this youtube.com video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Va2ssVrrmS4

For the life of me, I was not able to get the white clip to "snap" or "click in" like in the video. Are you guys replacing the window regulators with OE parts, ebay window regulators, or replacing only the white clips?

Hey D Unit, I replied in PM but it seems like it didn't go through, possibly because of how recently I had signed up for the forums. Let me know if you didn't get the second reply attempt from me and still need help.

But for the potential benefit of the others here, the regulator clips seem really wimpy in the plastic where they are supposed to retain the barrel nut on the wire. Mine had pulled loose from that area and the plastic was damaged on the top side of the clip. I could push the barrel nut back in but it would easily pop back out. I didn't have a new clip on hand.

I removed the whole regulator assembly and used a 2-part epoxy to pot over that area of the plastic clip and barrel nut and bond it in there. I preemptively did the same thing on the other clip for that regulator. It should greatly strengthen the clip attachment overall. After waiting half a day for everything to harden up, I reinstalled the regulator assembly and so far so good.

If it breaks again on that door I will likely just need to replace the entire regulator assembly as it's doubtful the clips will pull out again.
