whistling sound inside cabin

I have a strange whistling sound which can only be heard inside the cabin while the windows are closed which gets louder with higher rpm. Can't hear it coming from the engine bay, only inside the car. It is even there while the car is stationary. Anyone got any ideas what this could be as it is rather annoying.

any check engine lights or stored codes?

check the intake boot. check the general condition of the hoses. could be a vacuum leak somewhere.

could also be a pulley or tensioner. what mileage do you have? usually after 100k they get dry and start making noise.

last thing i can think of is the hvac blower. on my e46 it would make a cricket sound. sounded like it was coming from inside the dash, in the engine area. ended up being the blower itself. some people lube it up, i ended up replacing it.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

No engine lights on the dash. Not checked for any codes.

Also if it was intake boot, pulley or tensioner, then i would hear the whistling in the engine bay, but this is coming from inside the cabin, while the fan blower is off also.

I have only had the car 2 months and it had a full MOT and service done before I bought it, all the hoses look pretty new. It has 107k miles on the clock.

sunroof is closed. like i said the whistling happens while car is stood still as well, and gets louder and more high pitched when pressing the gas.

search this site and Bimmerfest. Someone here or there had a similar problem. If I recall it turned out to be missing jack pads.

I don't understand why that would cause a whistling noise whilst stationary?

Interference in the radio/amp/speakers? Can you locate the source by moving around in the vehicle, or at least get close? Lots of possibilities.

It happens when the radio/head unit is turned off also, so I don't think it's that?

I can't seem to pinpoint the sound inside the cabin but it does sound as though it's coming from the front area of the cabin.
