Low Oil Pressure Switch Off Engine

4.8is V8 2006 87000 miles on clock.

Folks. Apologies I did search but could not find a definitive answer (maybe there is not one).

Yesterday I did full engine oil service with new OEM filter and 10 litres - approx of 5 - W30 BMW oil. All good no issues and no leaks. This is the second oil service I have done on this car in 1500 miles - I just bought it and want to be sure that the oil is clean.

Checked the dip stick yesterday and today having driven about 30 miles. Level is just off the high mark.

Then today I leave the car parked on level ground in the sun - 29.5 degrees C. I get back to the car after two hours, start the engine and get the warning "Low Oil Pressure Switch Off Engine" I switch off the engine and look under the car. No puddle of oil or any drips. Check dipstick - Level is just of the high mark.

Re-start engine. Warning gone has not returned.

Is this likely to be just a glitch given the ambient temps and very thin 5 - W30 oil?

She does not burn oil and does not drop it on the drive. Sounds sweet with no rattles top or bottom.

I've had this exact issue once too, not long after an oil, change - maybe 500km later. Happened just once - never again. And different engine too... But same oil and levels etc. Very odd.

Yes it's common , I had that a few times on my 4.8is .............just keep a eye on it , I changed my IVM that manages the engine ,and it brought my idle up a bit, I would check your on board computer and see what the idle is at.

HI

Thank you for the replies. Well it has not done it since. Oil level remains fine with no leaks and the revs are steady with the car idling well. I suspect a glitch, given that others have seen the same thing. Thank you.
