2004 X5 Panoramic Sunroof Errors Diagnostic Help
I know this subject has been beat to death on this forum but almost all of the threads are about broken mechanical sliders in the rear tilt function so they do not apply here.
My wife opened the sunroof in Key West to cool the car down with no problems at all, but when I went to close it nothing would happen. I manually closed it no problem by cranking the motor to close the glass and then the shade. At that point I could open the roof with the switch but the switch would not close it. Nothing would close it without manually closing it again. The sunroof has not been opened in years so fixing it may open a can of worms but again, I just want to diagnose it and then decide. I took a screenshot of the errors pulled with BMW Scanner and was wondering if anyone on our forum would know what the errors are. Specifically what the SHD and SoS normalization errors mean. From what I know from reading, it could be either the motor or the module. I believe the motor has hall effect sensors in it to detect direction and my first thought are exactly that. However a quick voltmeter check shows no voltage getting to the motor when the switch it pressed. I can hand crank the slider from the motor on the rear so I think the cables for those are are not the issue. I am still not sure how I will follow up with any repair but I would like to at least diagnose the issue.
