P0102 - MAF Sensor

Hello,

2000 4.4I X5. This thing is eating MAF sensors. I bought it a year ago with a P0102 code, no MAF readings from the ecm. Changed it out for an OEM Bosch unit, code went away no problems. 2 months ago, engine goes into fail safe, restart runs fine, but P0102 pops again. Once again no readings from MAF sensor. Replace it with another OEM Bosch unit. Code clears, stays off, all is good. Today, fail safe again. Start it back up, every warning light is going off. Drives away fine. But will not idle, have to 2 foot it when coming to a stop. Didn't do this before. Get it home, only code is P0102 again. No reading from MAF. Unhook battery, hook it back up, still will not idle. Leave it for 5 hours, try it again, runs fine but still has P0102, and no readings from MAF.

Any ideas??? Am I just that unlucky to get 2 bad replacement sensors??? They work perfectly at first. I will try cleaning this one, but doubt it will do much. How dirty could a 2 month sensor be? This thing has only been driven 5000kms in the last year.

Thanks
Steve
