Noisy DISA Valve?
177k miles, it had a new aftermarket installed by the PO 1-2 year ago. Started it up today, and heard a noticeable rattle, sure seems to originate from the DISA. Assuming it is, can I drive this thing until I R&R it with a German Auto Solutions kit? Or am I just waiting for the pin to get sucked into an intake valve? Thanks

Thanks, that's where I thought this was going. Of course, GAS says their kits is not compatible with aftermarket DISA's. I guess it's off to the dealer.
I've had lots of high mileage cars over the years, M-B's, Chryslers and Fords; all have been very robust. I'm hoping this one redeems itself soon....

Does it sound like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRhDpADB87s You should DIY it. It's literally one of the easiest DIY's on these cars (there are not many DIY jobs that are easy). Let us know how you make out... |

I repaired mine with the aluminum fin repair kit. Very glad I went that route. The best part other than 1/3 the price is that there is no pin!
I'm sure I posted pictures search my username. Oh and yes DIY it is the easiest part to replace besides the oil cap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Thanks guys. Good videos and yeah, I'll diy this today. Would really prefer to do the GAS kit, but they state it is incompatible with aftermarket DISAs, which is what I now have. I guess it's off to the dealer for a new part today. Can't afford the downtime right now.

So I pulled the DISA, and everything looks fine. The pivot pin for the vane feels tight, doesn't seem like it is going anywhere. The vane is a little loose at it's base, but not bad. I reinstalled and started the engine. Rattle is very much there, unplugged the connector to disable and the rattle stops.
Doesn't seem like there is an imminent failure here, but I guess it's not worth taking any chances. Since I apparently can't get the GAS modification for an aftermarket unit, I ordered the ridiculously expensive BMW part.
