Unhappy Transmission Shudder

Hi everyone!

I just bought a 03 4.4i and it has some transmission problems. The first thing I noticed was that when driving at steady speed around 50mph the rpm slightly fluctuates. This doesn't happen when driving steady but faster 70 - 80mph.

Then I realized that when driving around town, it shakes when changing from 3rd to 4th almost always. It goes away if I press the gas or if drived in manual mode. When happens it feels like driving through a bumby road.

Do you have any idea how can I Fix this problem?

Thanks!

Try a couple of tubes of shudder fix. Amazon sells it. Probably the torque converter.
Wouldn't hurt to try it.

There's a flex plate between the driveshaft and transmission aka Guibo. Check the condition of that before wasting your money on shudder fix.

It could be a numbers of things. I would first look into the rubber driveshaft couplers. Perform a drop drain of the trans fluid. And these trucks are notorious for valve body issues.

Had this problem myself and it is the lockup clutches in the torque converter.
Put somr Dr-Tranny in the box and it will clear up for a short time but that will confirm what i am saying.

I had a refurbished torque converter fitted with new filter and oil.
Cost me £470 but that was 3 years ago.
No problem since and a nice smother gear change as well.
