No Heat!
The AC works fine in my car- No problems there (as far as I can tell). But this morning was the first time I really needed to use the heat. After driving a full 10 miles in 50f ambient temperatures, the air blowing from the vents was at least not cold anymore! IDK, maybe I was just numb by that time. I turned it off. 60 miles later, I thought I would just check to see what was coming out of the vents- Ambient temp air, that's it. Now that winter is approaching I can't ignore this issue. Where should I start with this one? Thanks

Use the hidden menu to pull up the coolant temp in place of the odometer. It should get to about 90c and stay there. The problem is the "gauge" on the dash isn't. It's effectively an idiot light in the form of a needle. When the thermostat soft fails it won't seal tight and let's some coolant flow through the radiator and the engine won't heat properly.
It could be other things of course but start with making sure the engine heats to proper operating temps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Have you turned the dials on the center vents to the 'Red' from 'Blue' so that warm ambient air will flow? Since you've only had the thing in the Summer months and haven't had one before, I figured its at least a place to start.

Thanks, I'll start there. I haven't encountered the hidden menu yet, I'll look that up. My X5 does not have it's original radio, consequently certain functions are no longer accessible like the clock function, etc. I hope checking engine temp is not one of them......

As an incidental benefit, I learned how to access the hidden menu, nice to be able to do this! Now I can return to the existing punch list of CCV, rear license lamp problems, replacing window clips, fixing washer leak...... Thanks again!

That was *awesome*. I've done this to myself a dozen times! Usually the opposite. I'll park the car at night when it's 50F out then the next day it will be 80+ and I'm waiting an m awfully long time to get any AC satisfaction before I realized oh crapity crap I did it again! It's especially edit m easy to do at night when you can't see the color dots.
Like a thermometer: hot is higher. Push up for warmer down for cooler. The diffused dash vents is one of my favorite things with the x5! Especially nice when it's raining and I want to run the AC to remove humidity but it's cold enough outside I need to have the temp set to 80°F; being able to diffuse that warm air with some cool outside air so both my feet and face are comfortable Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I flat love the controls bmw did for the vent part. Being able to have my feet warm and the cool air in my face rocks in the winter. Every car should be like that.

Did BMW Patent the idea? I've never seen on a different car and I utilize it every drive adjusting the face air to be optimal while the foot well and the car as a whole is automatic
