Anyone have an X5 5 speed manual??

I just took delivery on my 2003 x5 yesterday, I just installed the quad piupes for the 4.4 and rear clear lights. Anyways I think the synchro in my first gear is not working properly:
When you are in traffic at about 10 miles and you engage the clutch rolling while it is in first gear the car makes a whining noise, depending on the speed it gets qhite loud. Also going at about 15 miles per hour if you engage the clutch and try tu put it into first gear it will start clickking really loud, even if you are going 5-10 miles per hour. Does anyone have another manual traqnsmission x5 who can tell me if this is normal. I have just driven the car 80 miles and took delivery on it yesterday. The car is BMW CPO and it has a factory warranty until 08/19/07. How is BMW when you take your car in for problems, the warranty should cover this right? I called my sales guy and he said that was nbormal in some cars but I have never heard that and I have driven manual cars including bmw's for years. Should I worry about this? and what is the correct step to take next as tomorrow service is closed because its saturday?

'motordavid' is a regular here, a 5 speed owner and very well informed both on X and cars in general; seek his input here.

(I've heard that the 1st gear is very 'low'. I'd imagine trying to go into 1st at 15 mph might not work too well)

As regards worrying and next step to take. Don't fret. If there is something wrong with the transmission; I'm sure it is covered. Call the dealer, let them acknowledge your concern and take it in next week.

Diaz: Have never exp'd the symptoms you describe...
I do have the "squeaky clutch pedal": there is an SIB for that "noise", but
it's a clutch overall of some kind. I'm travelling and don't have the SIB#/details
with me. Making a leap, that "Clutch Re-Do" SIB May fix your situ...Any Sltr should be able to diagnose and R&R. I wouldn't sweat it; you're under warr, if the CPO covers as it should. Tell Stlr idiot that it is Not "normal", lol!
GL and let us know the diagnosis and outcome, please.

Just had my "squeaky clutch" fixed on the X last week. Just greased it at the stlrshp.
I also have a "groan" when turning the wheel side to side at a stop, sounds like tie-rod ends from past experience, but this is my first Bimmer so I could be way off, she goes in on Thursday.

I own a 2001 5-speed. I can vouch for the comment that first gear is very low: unless I'm literally at a dead stop, I almost always just drop into 2nd and accelerate from there. I have never experienced a clicking noise, however.

That being said, don't hesitate to bring it to the dealer to be looked at. I had a few things that concerned me when I took delivery of my X5, and the dealership and my saleswoman were extremely accomodating.

other helpful info

I have a 2002 X5/5speed and the first week I nearly got whiplash every time I started out. I found this very troubling since I have driven a stick for a very long time and every car I have owned has been a stick. Since this is my first BMW I suspected it might be a gearing ratio issue. Several friends who have sticks in their BMWs confirmed it to be true. After some research I discovered that in addition to first gear being so low that there is also a clutch delay valve in the hydraulic line. I don't think it has any bearing on the problem at hand but it is good information to have.
