Geez. You already get money from this site advertising your Youtube channel videos. At least have the couth to register for an account to post items for sale as required by forum rules.

I wasn't aware there was a separate classifieds section that required a premium account, my mistake.

As for your continuous policing of any helpful link, comment or thread I contribute, I would appreciate if you found another outlet for your negativity.

I don't know the rules here (and BTW, many auto sites are different). Not looking for any debates, or caring much about the opinions of others on this topic.

But I do appreciate richardb's youtube videos, and if he's getting crazy rich off the ad revenues, then good for him.

And I was not offended at all by the single for sale listing here. It's not like he's running a storefront on xoutpost. I'm sure many of us free members will occasionally have a part or two here and there to sell, and it would be more user friendly if the rules did not prohibit that.

I hope there aren't any rules against offering an opinion about forum usage. But if so, please don't kill me. Just delete my post.

You are entitled to your opinion... as am I. The methods you use to help are non-altruistic and self-serving. Which I am not against... but make it known that's the case and stop fishing for Youtube hits on the forum under the guise of altruism. I have no problem with you wanting to be the "ChrisFix" of BMW's... but taking advantage of a community in the manner you are is tantamount to selling things on the site as a vendor without paying for that privilege.

And the reason members "police" the site is because the admins and owners are not present or active on the forums. I'm not the only one that does this. A few other members would have chimed in with exactly the same message regarding your "FS" posting. If you want this place to end up like E46fanatics or Bimmerforums that's fine. Myself, and others, would prefer it didn't.

There's nothing wrong with the videos themselves. I think they would be great if made into a central database thread of his contributions. What I don't like is titling individual threads with the DIY moniker when there is no DIY content actually in the thread. Call me an old man if you like, but redirecting someone to another site for monetary gain is not what a forum is about. I have linked my videos here and will either make them a private non-monetized link, or I will let people know the video is contributing to my $100 Youtube check that I get every 5 years.

I've brought it up to him in the past and his answer was that a thread compilation would not come up in a search. Anyone who knows how to use a forum search... or google search... knows that is not true.

I'm not offended either. Those are the forum rules. No one is forcing anyone to participate. It helps contribute to the hosting and databasing costs associated with running a forum... which is why the rule exists I'm sure. If you like Xoutpost, help support it the way the owners have outlined.

There's no harm done by posting links to DIY repairs when it is relevant in a discussion topic or thread. To say that I'm taking advantage of the community we're both a part of by not paying for a premier account is just ridiculous.

Like I said above, I wasn't aware of the rule for posting a for sale ad and accepted the mistake.

As for your other comments, I just have to disagree. In an effort to avoid a debate I think we will just have to agree to disagree.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts here which you are free to do. But I will continue to interact and participate in the community here despite our difference of opinion.

It's only ridiculous when, once informed, you actually pay for the privileged access to sell within the community.

Until you do- or advocate for the removal of this thread, you really don't have any argument that isn't immediately false.

If you spend such little time here you are unaware of the FS rule which is the third stickied thread that you pass every time you come here... it shows you are just here to post links to your channel. THAT is taking advantage of the community.

How you don't see that is beyond me. Or perhaps you do, and just don't care. Look, I've had a bad week and maybe that's making me a little more cantankerous than usual (and focusing my "negativity" as you put it, though I consider your contributions negative)... but you have not given me a single thing to reconsider about your intent and place in the community. Trust me, I'm pretty open minded and will definitely consider anything I may have over looked.

And this is what it comes down to. We will have to agree to disagree. Unfortunately, I'll have to just keep clicking on DIY titled threads that contain no such information, I like to save DIY's BTW. If you want to help the community write up a DIY to compliment your videos. Would go a long way to further your position. And I'm not the only one who has voiced this position as we had this exact sort of discussion not but 5 or 6 months ago if memory serves.

BTW, you're aware of the FS rule now. This thread is still titled a FS thread and is not closed.

Speaking of DIY's, just about every old school DIY with photos attached or embedded is gone. I think there is an issue overall with the hosting of images that just disappear, making the threads useless. Seems to have affected all of the internet, not just this forum.

Yes I believe again it was both you and Propellerhead that expressed dissatisfaction with me editing links to videos that no longer worked. Previously the videos would embed here on the forum (as they do on every other forum) but after so many years embedding feature was removed, and what remained were broken links. So I fixed them.

It's too bad embedding is no longer working here, it was helpful to watch repair videos embedded as part of a discussion (call it an evolution of the old school embedded photo style DIY). So now it's just links and discussion, but the discussion is equally valuable, especially when diagnosing.

There is an option in the advanced section when you go to edit the original post of the thread. Once in advanced there is an option to "Lock thread," I believe is how it's named.

I agree, it is a shame embedding was removed. It can be very helpful to help illustrate a DIY.

I approve of embedding, and videos links as well when accompanied with at least a synopsis of part numbers, materials, and procedure. Otherwise, it's literally spam until you click away from the site.
