The sun shade opens fine, but when closing it takes a button push for each 6 inches because we tried to initialize the roof and it wouldn't initialize because of the jam. That turned off the collision detection thus the 6 inches at a time. We pulled both sections of glass off and examined the complete mechanism. We determined that it needed all new plastic parts, front and rear. I've done it before and the worst is usually pulling the head liner because you have to be sooo careful. So far I have found kits for the front and rear for about $500 total.

When both panels tilt up, and then you try to open the roof, the front panel goes down but not back. At this point, did the rear panel come back down? If it didn't come back down, the dremel fix could still work. If it does come back down, then you probably do have the more serious problem. Good luck!

Here's the YouTube diy's on an E70, same roof cartridge:

tmv,

I used some pictures from the sellers ad and he had the base part of a fancy bike rack stuck in the factory trailer hitch when he took the pictures. He kept the bike rack, I kept the car with the trailer hitch.

It's not a step, its the base part of a fancy bike rack.

We replied at the same time I saw your post after I already sent mine. Weather tech makes a step that plugs into the hitch receiver that looks a lot like the bike rack base in this case. Not sure exactly the point when you can get to the roof rack better by stepping on the tire from the side.
