4.8is N62 variable intake actuator

I am hoping someone can shed some light on the title.. I recently had my new to me x5 serviced at a dealer (i know, I know.. flame suit on) and they pointed out they pulled a "variable intake actuator fault" in the cars system..

How bad is this? Is this as potentially bad as a faulty DISA on a 3.0?

I am hoping to hear that it isnt however I am prepared to hear that it is.. (well sort of) lol

i appreciate your feedback..

wpoll will become famous soon enough
Seems to be a common fault on N62 motors but it's not a problem like a faulty DISA on an M54 etc, i.e. nothing will get sucked into the engine.

The actuator is on the back of the intake manifold and it seems you have to remove the intake manifold to swap it out.

The impact on performance is anecdotily minimal.

Thanks Wayne.. After doing a bit more research, I yielded the same result. I am prety relieved that its no where as catastrophic as the DISA on the m54.

Is it the actuator that goes bad or the flap. I have a silent disa code that's pretty persistent. No I'll effect that Ive noticed tho.

Also, removing the manifold, what else am I going to have to replace. Just some Intake gaskets, or a lot of other stuff too?
Is there a write up on here?
