I smell coolant
Maybe part of the high cluster package ? I googled a bit and found nothing specific to show which cars have or don't have the sensor connection. I don't have the Bentley manual.
I have low cluster and no sensor wire. Somebody above said they have the wire and 3.0i but high cluster so I think we may have figured it out. I had low enough coolant that the cabin heat was affected but no warning so I don't think there is a secondary method if you don't have the sensor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

For me... I had a hair line fracture on the reservoir tank. Would smell but never see the leak. Heat would burn it off until my Mech..pointed out the thin white reside along the side of the tank. It expands when heated then it leaks out. You maybe able to have a shop do a pressure test to confirm the leak location.

You can rent the tool for free to pressurize the tank from several auto parts stores
