Once you have the 'Inactive' message come on, you may have to clear it using a code reader/scanner AFTER you have carried out any work. My icarsoft will clear suspension errors as will 'inpa'

When you refer to a "normal cycle" I am unsure what that is in terms of time? YOU really need something like 'inpa' to be able to see what the system is doing. That will show you if it is running to long/hot, slow etc.

The most common problem is the compressor piston ring fails (wears out) due to the system over running in an attempt to compensate for a loss of pressure (leak). People then fix the leak, but do not re-build the piston, which is now doomed to failure.

It is a neoprene/plastic ring so does not take too much to wear it out.

What I can tell you is this. On my 4.8, I thought the system was working as designed, until I rebuilt the compressor. Boy did that make a difference. The car raises & lowers in a couple of seconds. Prior to the rebuild that was around a minute.

I also note that with it rebuilt, it hardly runs when the car is being driven. Prior to that it would run for a few seconds at almost every stop light etc.

Good luck.

i know this is old and not sure any one will see this but i wanted to explain my scenario.

my 4.8is doesnt have a leak. i can leave it sitting for days with no change in height.

i replaced all 4 bags 2 years ago along with 4 new level sensors all form fcp euro.

i rebuilt my air compressor with the kit from andy.

2 years was fine but now im getting SLS error and system inactive. i can clear the code and sometimes it will be ok for a few days and then come back and other times it immediately comes back.

I removed the air compressor one more time and while doing that i sprayed soapy water on the plastic hose going into the bottom of the double sided quick air connector and saw a slow leak/bubbles. icut a bit of the tube off and used a light coat of gasket sealer on the hose and inserted it into the quick connect fitting and the leak went away.

plugged in the air compressor and for 2 days it was great. i could lower and raise the car very quick. less than 20 seconds to lower or raise.

then this morning SLS came back again.

so if i dont have any leaks (car never sags), air compressor rebuilt with the andy kit and i all new bags and sensors.. and i still have the problem.

would that indicate that my air compressor itself needs to be replaced? or maybe the distribution block on the air tank under the car need to be replaced?

wondering if anyone else has any other things i could test or try.
