Wheel Speed Sensor "Air-Gap Excessive"

There is no pick up ring in my e53 I looked in the hole and didn't see one. I previously sprayed brake cleaner in the hole and spun the axle.
As previously stated the OEM is OVI/Siemens. I put in a Febi brand sensor from Pelican and wonder if that what's causing the gap error? Before reading this I ordered a OEM one and will put it in tomorrow, weather permitting and will keep the forum up to date for peoples future reference.

The "tone ring" (pick up ring) is built into the seal on the wheel bearings... you can see the variation on the face of the seals....

+1: asnhe said. The tone ring is built into the bearing. It's not that uncommon for the tone ring to fail where bewring replacement is the required fix. That said, it's more likely a problem in the abs unit but that's the rub with abs fixes it can be very difficult to determine which it is.

I fortunately have two nearly identical x5s and have swapped about six items over the years to trouble shoot. Example wifes car currently is using a few items that used to be in my car: MAF, intake cam sensor and fuel pump. The maf was for trouble isolation but the other two were for quick replacement: I have her my part for instant repair and my car sat a few days until the new device came.

We've also on more than one occasion swpaped tires for an instant fix for a flat or worn out tires.

Ya it's a good learning experience and can't wait get this fudging Gremlin out of my X. Cudos on maintaining 2 beasts!

Problem solved. I put in the genuine BMW part and took out the Febi. No more errors like speed gap front left, transfer case malfunction, steering angle sensor-supply, wheel speed sensor-supply front left, the 3 lights and that gremlin is no longer there! Now to return the non working part to Pelican.

Great feedback. Those like the cam shaft sensor can be stupidly sensitive .

A little reverse logically, I replaced a rear bearing and the oe sensor started giving me fits. I put in not even a branded one but a knock off just as a proof of concept test and it's been working flawlessly since.

They are very sensitive and just the smallest angle off of perfection and no go. As you've noticed.

Ya I agree, finicky as Fudge! Now to find a new exhaust mechanic and do a bad cat!

After you 100% sure on the bad cat? I was getting bad cat errors until I replaced my O2 sensors. Now wife's is starting to give me the same low cat efficiency errors

Yes first it smelled bad and now its pinging like crazy. I had tried to use fuel cleaner to no prevail 0420 code came back. I'm going to go for a wagner that says it fits e53 4.4L.
