Rear washer hose routing???

So, my rear washer pump works, but there is no fluid coming out at the rear. This is very disconcerting, because I don't see anything leaking from under the car, which leads me to believe it is routed inside the car. Now since I've been trying to get it to work, that means if it is indeed inside the car, I have now flooded the inside of the car, which is bad, very bad, if there are electronics under the carpet. I've already checked the rear tire area and it's dry as a bone, and the headliner in the rear hatch area appears to be dry. Can anyone tell me where the hose is routed so I can repair it? I have tried to search the forum, but the search feature isn't working.

Can you quadruple check the motor and confirm you are using the correct function to activate rear washer. I'm not doubting your DIY but hose line is rarely the problem with this issue. I would do the following:
1) the front and rear windshields have identical motors so you can switch them out to verify the rear is not faulty assuming the front works already

2) rear washer is activated by pushing the stalk once and keeping it all the way back for a couple seconds

Thanks, I have checked and verified, I also swapped the motor out for a new one. No difference. I do know how activate the rear washer. Thanks for the link. I guess it sits above the headliner. I think it may have separated at the firewall. I'll check it out when the weather warms up in a few weeks.

Does the motor come on? Try this; plug the wires from the front washer motor into the rear washer motor then activate the front washer motor by pulling on the stalk. If the motor comes on, and it should, you will get fluid out the rear washer. If the motor comes on and you don't get fluid, then you've confirmed your line is clogged. Clogged line is unlikely. Clogged washer is a possibility.

My rear washer also doesn't work. My research has led me to believe the problem is a chip on the board for the rear wiper motor. I did the test mentioned above and I get fluid out the rear washer. I haven't wanted to spend a couple hundred dollars to replace the rear motor. I've had more pressing issues requiring that money.

Thanks. My rear washer does indeed pump water, but I don’t see it come out the back.

I would check two items first. Remove the hose from the pump and verify you have flow. Second, access the spray nozzle and remove the hose and check. A lot of times it is a plugged spray nozzle. You may have to clean it, use a pin to clear the holes. Also, check that small check valve at the rear as shown on the diagram.

If you have no flow at the rear with the nozzle off, then you know it's between the pump and the rear and you then have enough proof to justify to yourself the trouble of tracking it down in the car.

Since you still haven't created a signature to indicate model/model year specifics...I'm going to assume that the rear washer line is in the same location through the production of the e53 X5...and I used my 06 to pull up the diagram.

It appears that (at least) the last portion of the rear washer line is in the headliner. And from past discussions on this topic (including the e39 Touring models that have a similar set-up)...many times when the rear washer doesn't work...and the pump has been checked out to be okay...there may be a blockage in the hose. Like mentioned above...it's usually clogged near the end (see part #1, #2, #3 in the diagram below). Remove enough of the stuff around these parts....see if you can clean/check them for a clog.

Again...help us help you better and really consider creating a signature. It also helps forum members in the future that may run across your posts...if they have the same question or issue that you have...it may or may not apply to them depending on what model you have (could be different engine, different tranny, different set-up, or change in production based on build date).

Thanks for the model info update...the diagram would apply. And good luck with the rear washer...hopefully it will be something simple/easy like a little bit of calcium build up that's clogging the jet.
