If you charge one that's gone dead do you need to do the re-initialization with it?

I picked up the charger from Amazon.

Question to Crowz or anyone else, is the LED on the front supposed to be green while charging? When I plug this in, the LED starts as red, switches to green then goes out. If I place any of my 3 keys on there (including my dead one) the light does not go to green. I left my dead one on there for an hour and it did not come back from the dead.

The Amazon reviews suggested the LED is supposed to stay green when unit is charging. So I am doing something wrong of my charger is defective. Whadathink?

I don't remember what the led does when I charge a key. One way to know if its working is if the key gets hot or not. If the key stays cold its not working. It wont get red hot but it gets warm enough to tell something is going on.

Attempting to use a first gen Apple Watch charger.. will update and see if it works here shortly. Sure would be nice to have a working key fob.

+1

I've had my E39 key sitting in a drawer since 2001. Hell, both E39's sits in storage most of the time. I've used them so infrequently that they look new. Both it and the E53 fob that's been next to it for 7 of the last 8 years work fine.

You can't really tell, but here's where the E39's rest with disconnected batteries... Waiting for a nice day to stretch out.

You could also try an Oral B toothbrush base charger

How would one tell the charger is working if the fob battery is not down?

How to recharge your bmw key fob

https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0S5kuVsbYSr6d

You can measure the voltage by poking pins through the rubber seal exactly as shown in the album above.

The magic spot is just below, not at the corner
