Engine cranks but no start

2005 x5 4.4. Had a misfire code cylinder3 and engine was running rough. Took a couple plugs out to check the condition of the plugs. They didn’t look bad so I swapped the plug from cylinder 5 with the one from cylinder 3. Started it up and it ran better. Turned off the engine and ran codes again and no misfire codes. So then I decided to change all the plugs. Once I completed plug change started the car up and it ran better. I still had a code for exhaust cam over advanced bank2. Googled typical causes for this and I found it could be dirty or clogged vanos so I removed the exhaust vanos and it had a bunch of gunk around the screen. Cleaned it and reinstalled it. Removed intake vanos cleaned and reinstalled. Went to start it, it tried for a brief second and then it would just crank and would not attempt to start. Is there a reset or is it something more
