Trans failsafe and engine failsafe
Help! I ran thru some water (at 50 mph)and not a minute later I got trans failsafe And engine fail safe. It died and I had to pull off the road, she wouldn’t restart and my obd 2 reader wouldn’t connect. I’m gonna leave it over night and try again tomorrow. What all is your first thought? What should I bring with me to diagnose? (if it doesn’t just fire up) I’m just sick. It’s been such a good car. 2005 e53 4.4 sport 150.xxx SOLVED When I hit what seems to be about 10 inches of water at 50 mph It forced enough water in the ECU box to trigger the Engine failsafe prog. I drained water from the main computer VDO box seemed to sealed. THE FIX Unplug everything remove the ecu, open it “small star screws” and airhose it Use a (electronics cleaner spray to remove any corrosion due to water exposure) spray silicone oil in to the box and Re-air hose it to distribute the spray. NEXT Return to the engine bay and air hose all the harness (They hold a suprising amount of water) Spray the connectors lightly with said silicone to repel water in the future. That’s it! Sounds like shorted connections. Get everything dried out and I bet it comes back to life. Then find the connections with the bad seals and replace/repair
