Used ABS module
just wonder here: I have a used ABS module, uninstalled that I bought last week and the one on my 2001 X5 is giving DSC issues. Should I try swapping them? Maybe the 2001 is before they needed to be coded? Will it do any harm to try it? Thanks for your ideas. |

Sure. Give it a try, but definitely you will need to code the module.

You'll also need some kind of scan tool to open the block to bleed the system once you have it coded and installed.

[QUOTE=Purplefade;1134669]You'll also need some kind of scan tool to open the block to bleed the system once you have it coded and installed.
When I say ABS module, I mean only the front black part that has the solenoids & 6 torx screws. Not the back part that has the brake lines screwed into it. Seems last year we had one go out for rebuild and we just re-installed it and it was fine; no bleeding needed. |

Worried it might screw something up and then I'll have 2 things to fix instead of just 1. Ever done it yourself?

Having said that, without re-coding, ABS light will remain on, so there is really no point of replacing it. Yes I've done it myself. I've replaced the ABS module with used unit. After replacement, I had to re-code and reset steering angle sensor by DIS. |

I've done it myself, but cannot remember exact procedure.
I used DIS which were purchased from ebay. Google "bmw dis e39 abs module". |
