Two X5's in the same family?

Hi everyone.

I want to see what's your opinion on having two X5's in the same household? My wife and I have a '01 (65,000 miles) and '02 (31,000 miles)4.4i with different colors. Both have sport package. But the '02 has sport seats, Xenon, Premium Package, Tow Package, etc. It's more loaded and has lower mileage.

But it seems like having two identical cars are a little too much? Don't ask me how I got into this. We also have a daily beater and a 540it (fun car). Lately, I've been thinking about getting rid of one of them. I'll probably keep the silver '02 as it's newer and more loaded and it's for my wife. The old civic has to stay as it saves gas and insurance. Now, here's my dilemma. I really like the blue '01 4.4i as the color is cool and sporty. Condition is perfect. It rides so comfortably too. For some reasons, I always feel the '02 feel a lot stiffer and a little more noisy? The 540it is a very fun car to keep and drive. I always like its styling. It has 110,000 miles. I'm leaning towards to let go the '01 even though it's in VERY good condition inside/out. But on the other hand, I really want to have the sporty blue X5...hmm..I know I need to make up my mind.

What do you guys think?

Also, why the '02 rides stiffer than my '01? is it the sport seats? If the '02 rides the same as my '01, my decision will be so much easier -> blue '01 needs to go...

thanks!!

Greetings and welcome obiparis :xoutpost:

Let me get this scenario right - You have 2 X5's because you bought one first, your wife liked it so much, so she had to have one too. So if you sell one of the X5's, somebody will not have an X5 to drive daily. That somebody is either you or your wife.

I know in my house, my wife usually wins these battles.

If it were left to me, I would tell the wifey to pick for herself one of the two X5's, keep the civic, and trade the 540it and the leftover X5 for a bimmer of your choosing (maybe a 4.8is?).

Regards, Mike

keep the civic & the 02 X5, trade the 540i and the other X5 for either a newer 4.6 or even better a 4.8. You'll be very happy. Good luck

We have an X3, X5 and a 330Cic in our household.

So having two big SAV's is certainly no biggie . Then again you do have 4.4i's whereas we all have 3.0's. There are also 3 of us, and I think I am the youngest X3 owner on the board with the age of 17.

Tell me, is there a valid reason that you have to get rid of an extra car? Or do you just want to get rid of one..?

I was thinking, just ditch the old civic and get a cooler car, like a hybrid...

-OR-

Since the X5 is approaching the end of its life in its E53 form, you could get a sweet deal in the next year on a 3.0i X5. As the french say, never TWO without THREE ! haha how cool would that be?

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'll definitely keep the '02 as you guys said. You are right. It pretty much comes down to which car I want to drive. I want to have variety on cars. But at the same time, having a X5 will be nice too. Since the '01 has been great and in perfect condition, it's sad to let it go. I won't sell both yet because the new X5 is coming out this year. I want to see how it looks like. But I won't buy the first year model though.

I'll ask my question again. Why the '02 ride stiffer than the '01? They both have 19" rims, sport package, except sport seats.

We have 2 X's in the family. My wife has a Black 4.4 Sport and I have the Imola 4.8is. Quite happy with both.

I would love to have 2 X5's in the family......that was our plan, but wifey didn't want to do that. She got an ML500 instead. We just recently bought an '05 ML350 and are trying to sell the ML500 - so we have 2 ML's in the family as of right now.
We used to have 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees - hers got hit and that's when we sold it & got the X5 - was hers for 2 weeks and I "stole" it from her and made it mine & she got the ML500 right after that.........

No complaints here..........

I did switch the wheels/tires from the '01 to the '02 and it's still the same. Maybe the '01 has an older suspension (only 65,000 miles though) and the '02 is newer and tighter? But I don't think that should be the problem.

I still can't make up my mind yet at this point. I guess it may come down to whichever will be sold first with a good price... :-)
