'06 4.4i lost power on drive home, wouldn't restart until it sat for a couple hours

It's been running great for along time. On the way home a couple nights ago, I suddenly lost power. Pulled over, engine running really rough. Shut down and would only crank and kick over sporadically. Towed it home and after it was unhooked, started it up and it sounded like normal. Today I started it up, it ran fine for a couple minutes, then went back to running really rough. Same story, shot down and would not restart. Pulled the MAF connection and seemed to kick over even less, so put it back. Pulled and re-seated the fuel relay, verified that it is clicking on when key is turned. No set or pending codes, so not sure where to start testing. I expect that once it's sat for another hour, it's start right up and run for a few minutes again.
