Dark screen Nav

Picked up another 4.6is 3 months ago with a chain guide issue for dirt cheap.
With the guides sorted out and the truck now running, I decided to take care of the minor stuff. Specifically the wide screen. Ive googled and researched most threads about the wide screen issues but havent seen anything about what Im experiencing.

First off it works. I can perform all the normal functions, I upgraded the firm ware on the mk4 unit, changed the splash screen, and the screen is clear of dead pixels. However the screen is dark as if the back lighting is out. At night when I start the truck it flickers as if it wants to come on but can't. So Im kind of stumped. The PO stated it worked prior to the chain guide issue and it being parked for several months. So I honestly have no reference point to say when it all occured. I understand the headunit can be replaced relatively cheap, that there may be a fix for it but its lost or archived somewhere in the ever growning abyss of dead pixel thread hell, or f'it and go with any of the various aftermarket head units out there.

That said, before I toss it all out and go aftermarket I just wanted to see if indeed it is something that can be fixed.

Thanks in Advance, cheers.
