Go to your dealer and ask him for one of the ones they've removed from another Customer's X5 when installing the hitch. I installed my hitch and my first effort at cutting the insert (cap) to fit around the hitch receiver was not up to my asthetic standards so I went to my dealer and the service manager GAVE me a take-off from another X5, gratus.

you always could stick the receiver/ball in it to help keep the guy behind you a little further away - don't laugh or scoff, got rear ended in one of my Broncos and the hitch/receiver distributed the shock thru the frame and miminized damage to just a few scratches on the bumper
