I tried pulling the three fuses but did not drive or start the car, you can hear the cluster reset when you put the fuses back in but that solution was temporary.

I used PA Soft 1.4 and a OBD2->USB with my old windows XP laptop =)

Cool, thanks. I've been using a generic OBD2 adaptor and either the torque app in my android head unit or easyOBD2 on a laptop. They work but don't give me the specifics you're getting so I've ordered the PA Soft adaptor on Amazon and I'll give it a try.

I don't know if you have searched how to code your new/used cluster but seems like you need to take apart the circuit board and swap over a chip. If that's the case I'm not comfortable doing this anymore lol

My 4.8is is doing exactly the same, I'm planning on pulling the cluster out tomorrow to have a look. Mine seems to be worse when weather is wet or humid, which here in the UK is pretty much every day lol.

I was able to find a used cluster for fairly good price, I'll report back once I swap it out.

You guys might want to contact blacknight530i on bimmerforums. He rebuilds our clusters, usually for the pixels, but he might know other things as well.

Already have, explained my situation and he doesn't believe he can fix it either.

BBA remanufacturer does a good job on clusters if any of you want to go that route. You send it in, they check it out & call with an estimate & for payment, they ship it back.

Update:

New cluster came in and had it coded by a local shop.

New cluster has so far solves the issue.

The shop that coded supposedly was going to be able to correct the mileage because the new cluster has 149k while I only had 117k.

The scanners/tools he had was unable to do it due to the M35080 chip which has to be removed.

The shop then asked me to take apart my old one to access the chip which I ended up destroying the cluster when pulling the needles.

I knew about the m35080 chip needing to be de-solder and etc but gave the benefit of the doubt to the shop that said could do it with out. But obviously couldn't.

So off it goes to blacknight530i on bimmerforums.com to get my mileage corrected by him.

Was so pissed when I gained 30k miles.
