Dsc/4x4 inop

Hi all,
I have an 06 x5 3.0L. 82000 miles. The other day I was driving and the DSC/4x4 inop Warning came on the screen and the 4x4 warning light came on. The light goes out after restart but comes back on after 35mph. Sometimes the warning comes on the screen as well, sometimes not. Today I noticed if I press the DSC button in park, the light stays on regardless if I press the button again or not. No ABS light. Brought to my indy who scanned it on his BMW computer and it shows nothing wrong. The car seems to be driving fine. No power loss, no weird handling. Need to get in for further diagnostics but have been told from various sources it can be anything from a flat battery to a bad alternator to a bad wheel bearing. Any thoughts before I give up and give to my mechanic to diagnose? Thanks.
