Vibration at idle

So my 04 4.4 vibrates at idle, so I assume it needs engine mounts. One thing I noticed if you put it in neutral it smooths out?

That makes sense to me, since in neutral the engine is torqued against the transmission.

Does yours make a vibration sound as well?

I get this buzzing while at a stop light with for on brake and in drive.

Sounds like a plastic piece vibrating against the chassis somewhere.

It's not very pronounced and only the driver/owner would notice.

Sound goes away when I put it in neutral or let go of the pedal.

Is it really the whole car vibrating noticeably, or just a sound, coming from a particular place? If it's the latter ...

I think when stuff like this happens, the problem is the thing that's vibrating, not the fact that engine vibrations are going through the vehicle.

There might be a simple thing like an inner door panel with damaged clips and mounting points (from say 5-10 disassemblies so far, ask how I know this), that will have a vibration natural frequency that corresponds to 700 rpm. And maybe at idle, with the engine causing slight vibrations at that frequency, the door panel will rattle. Then at slightly higher or lower RPM, a little away from the natural frequency, the rattling is gone.

So I'd advise (and I've done this on my x5 - on the driver's door specifically) to try to track down the rattling part and secure it.

It's the sound of vibration for me, don't actually feel it.

But I suspected engine mounts because the noise is coming from the engine bay.
