Hi
I have this error message on my BMW x5 3 L diesel 2004 BD IKE: Electronic braking force distribution, someone who knows what it means and what needs to be done to fix this?

Seems like a common issue - I just checked mine with DIS and I saw it for the first time. Rats...

Further to this, I think it may be due to a low voltage condition.

Firstly, I've only ever seen this in DIS - never in INPA. And I've only had DIS for three weeks - had INPA for 3 years.

Secondly, I've only noticed this "fault" since I had the battery disconnected for a day while I replaced by exhaust manifold and glow plugs etc. Once I reconnected the battery, the car was behaving oddly, with the interior lights working in reverse (on with the doors closed, off with the doors open) and the 4X4 warning lamp was on constantly. A short drive sorted everything, including the 4x4 lamp but it then flashed on briefly at each start - something I know to indicate a low battery charge state. I charged the battery (via the jumper terminals) and the 4x4 lamp no longer comes on during the start.

I should point out my starting procedure involves turning on the ignition to the run position, then waiting for the FTM and 4x4 warning lamps to go out, then engaging the starter.

With a good battery, I normally see no further warning lamps (alternator lamp etc. go out after engine is running) but if the battery is getting low on charge, the 4x4 lamp wil light briefly while the starter is engaged.

I'm wondering if this is when this "fault" code gets set? I cleared the code after the battery charge yesterday and I'll drive for a week or so (a couple of hundred kms) and do another scan to see if it has returned.

Some of the sensors used by the DSC/ABV etc. seems VERY voltage sensitive.

I've had this error for years and given up on it. In a nutshell I would just ignore it - No CEL's, no performance issues, no problem. In my case it is harmless and a glitch in my E53 at least. There's a long thread about it here, with two possible purported "solutions" - a part replacement or coding out the part. Sit back and read on ...

Thank you for your response, I think I'm just ignoring the error for now, I do not notice any issues when driving the car

I was hoping to get a week with no 4x4 light at start up but I only got a few days and it's back. Either I need to charge the battery properly (overnight - which I will do tonight...) or the battery is on the way out...

Either way, I bet the code is back....
