Vibration at highway speeds

I’ve noticed that at highway speed I have a vibration that comes threw the steering wheel and you can feel it in your feet! Tires are new and balanced? I know the engine mounts are bad so that might be it or something else????

Needs more info.

1. At what speed?
2. I Does applying brake make it worse?
3. Put it into neutral when it vibrates, does it stop?

After 65
No for the brakes
Haven’t tried neutral on the highway, but at idle it vibrates less in neutral

Motor Mts will give you all kinds of side effects, so what are you waiting on? Replace them. Winter is coming and that project is not something you want to do in the snow and ice of Boston.

Start with the easy stuff
Tires - Normal wear?
Wheel - not bent?
Any wheel shop/tire shop can start you on the right path. If the wheel requires extra weights check for out of round conditions...(I.E. bent).

Next up
Anything that spins at speed.. These vehicles are hyper sensitive to vibrations if wheels, tires, half shafts, bearings, suspension parts, brakes are all not 89% good. Replacing one part in the suspension for example, causes the other worn parts to flex, wiggle, vibrate etc. In order to help you, the posters who can provide additional insight from their experiences, will need your info YEAR, MODEL, condition and what has been done properly up to now.

If you are new to your vehicle, you will need to "base line" the maintenance that has been postponed to you. Fluids, cooling system, belt drives, suspension check and torque arms replaced (how do you think the engineers got a heavy weight vehicle to perform as well as an X5 does?) brakes, ignition, etc. Special note: Big fat tires only magnify suspension issues. So, let us know where you are in your quest.

Here is a good story on finding vibrations on vehicles:

How many miles has this been going on and is it getting worse?

I assume you are saying tires are new and balanced as there is no reason to ask us if they are. Was the vibration present prior to new tires? Was the wear even on the old tires?

Vibration was there before new tires, and the left front old tire had uneven wear on the inner edge!

That points toward a suspension problem. Check or have the suspension checked for worn ball joint or control arm bushings. Since life cycles of suspension parts are similar I would check the other side and the rear as well just to get a sense of where you are.

Best practice is to rebuild the entire front suspension. It will save time if you DIY, money if you have it done and replacing piecemeal can accelerate wear on old parts and even the new parts. If part of your enjoyment is how the X5 drives, a suspension rebuild will be a significant improvement.

After 65 usually points to wheel balance.

Try this. Get it to vibrate, and accelerate more. If vibration stops around 80, I would say it’s balance.

Wheels out of balance have no consistency as far as what speed the steering wheel starts to shake or if/when it goes away. Doesn't mean wheel(s) out of balance is not the problem.

As far a wheel out of balance I would describe that as the steering wheel shaking side to side rather than a vibration on the floor. I assume they balanced the wheels when you replaced the tires. If the vibration started when you replaced the tires I would have the wheels road force balanced to see if that helps.
