Pre facelift bumper on 06 x5?

I didn't know this would work/fit like it does, but this is an 06 X5, built 9-23-05, and it sure looks like its a pre facelift bumper on this vehicle. Is this a common thing to do?

OMG...what in the h3ll is this? The things people do

Well...I wouldn't go as far to say that this is actually a prefacelift bumper because of the things circled in the red and green (the way the bumper & side fender come together is definitely facelift...as well as the scalloped design below the front headlights).

The only thing that is prefacelift is the foglights...could they have been fabricated especially since the entire front bumper has been painted all white?

Again, the way the side fenders fit and the scallop below the headlights...my money is that this is a facelift bumper with foglight fabrication.

If you compare the two pre facelift X5s below (blue 4.6is & blue 3.0) to the white facelift you posted...you can see how difficult it would be to fabricate the side fender/front bumper design and the scallop below the headlight...whereas the foglight would be the easiest to change. Also look at the difference where the two corner PDC sensors are located. I'm not sure why one would want to "Frakenstein" the facelift fog lights to look like the pre facelift foglights...but to each their own.

I admit, it was the foglight surrounds that threw me. This is a copart auction up for bid and I would be replacing the entire front bumper cover if I bought it. Thanks for the explanation!

Isn't this the factory "aero package" kit?

This vehicle has S321A which is Exterior Parts in Vehicle Color but no other package called aero or anything. It's also a 3.0i vehicle.

Weird.

That definitely has the aero package on it. Not familiar with that body code but paint match sounds like something aero vehicles would have.

Yes. And it includes the 'protective side moudlings' which were primed and ready for paint. It was a dealer-installed option in the US. The rear is also different and body color.

This one in particular was available for any LCII E53 from 09/03. The LCI's had a similar offering across all models as well.

Here's a solid shot from the catalog (note the missing door mouldings):
and others of LCI from other threads here:

Weird.
I changed the kidney and hood vent grills on my '04 3.0 to be silver as well so it is possible that the PO was on an upgrade kick and did it up right.

Thanks for posting that pic, PropellerHead. I have that same car - meaning the same colour and same wheels - and I always wondered what it would have looked like with an Aero kit. Not that it was available here.

Not a fan of the look, as it happens!!

Yeah. I have seen one around town a few times. I think it was in a parking garage for work or something. It always seemed a bit.. I dunno.. 'Plump' to me. I like the rougher edges on the au naturel E53.
