How to turn off self-retracting steering column?

All of a sudden the comfort access auto/self retracting steering column makes a really uncomfortable noise when I turn off the car as it retracts itself.

I mean it has always made some noise but it's really loud now.

Looks like the steering column tilts up too much and the plastic cover rubs against the leather and dash it's getting tightly squeezed in and makes a horrible noise and feel like it's eventually going to break the trim or wear excessively.

Anyway to stop this feature?

Update, here is a short clip of what I'm talking about:

This reportedly can be deactivated via NCS Expert. I have been wanting to turn this off but haven't had the time yet to look for the entries and change them to nicht_activ.

Coding can disable the entry exit motions. Or you can leave it all the way up like me :-)

My ghetto solution...

- Adjust the SW and seat the way you want it.
- Leave key in position II.
- Remove Fuse # (need to check the exact number) and label the fuse with tape. This way you know which slot to reinsert if you need to adjust SW or seat.
- Remove key.

You will find that you rarely ever need to reinsert the fuse.

I removed the fuse 4 years ago and have never had the need to reinsert it!

...hmmm, it's gotta be one of these symbols in the (new generation) fuse index below for the e70...I haven't taken the time to figure out what some of the more obscure symbols represent. But more than likely...its one of the fuses listed for either the steering wheel (2nd icon down in the 1st column) or the icon that is the 4th one down in the middle column...it looks like a "seat"..so I'm assuming that the fuse numbers next to those icons represent something to do with the steering wheel column in the e70 X5.

Not sure why BMW went to this all icon/symbol fuse index vs the old gen BMW fuse index that used text/words.

For my 2006 X5, the fuse for SW is Fuse #26.
I put a label on the Fuse itself and place it in the "Coin holder" next to the cig lighter socket as a reminder.

PS: I don't know why in modern cars, a single item such as let's say seat etc. is protected by many different fuses.

I've used the personalization in NCS Expert to turn off the steering wheel movement on key on/off, and the parameters lowvert mentioned are correct. It's very easy to do. The only confusing thing in NCS Expert is after you make all your changes, you have to 'broadcast' them to the car. Just changing on the screen alone won't make them stick.

Alternatively, instead of messing with fuses, you can unscrew the panel below the steering wheel and pull the connectors of the two steering wheel position motors (tilt & tele). They're not hard to get to, and that way you don't risk unexpectedly de-powering something else.

The "nice" thing about pulling the fuse is that it is "reversible"...should you need to adjust the SW etc., all you have to do is to reinsert the fuse (it takes 30 sec to insert the fuse).
