I know, I know. lol, sound like my wife.

The alternator I purchased I am trying out an aftermarket 180A version as a slight upgrade to the 170A OEM. We'll see if that pans out to be a good decision or not.

We need a poll for how many alternator bracket gaskets are leaking

There two types of alternator bracket gaskets (and OFHGs) - those that are leaking and those that will leak...

Haven't had to replace the alternator yet, but came close. The main reason I got my X5 so cheap was the previous owner kept swapping them, could never figure out why. When I got the car and did a preliminary teardown found the CCV tube to the dipstick seal was busted and leaking oil, and the OFH Gasket that mounts to the block was busted and was also leaking oil. A little bit of tidy work and she is still running strong two years later.

It’s mounted to the alternator. It’s not that bad a job at all on the 4.8is. Easy straight forward couple of hours. Just disconnect battery before you start.

I didn't bother with bat disconnect but I used a piece of radiator hose to protect the B+ when I disconnected from alternator.
