this car !!

driving home on the motorway ,steady 80mph 15 miles run,
pulled up at destination, to be treated with , red oil light and low oil pressure ,
not this again ive only just put a new oil sensor and oil pressure switch been ok ever since
didn't do it when driving just when I pulled up, turned car off, and it flagged up check oil level
here we go again
it can either be actual l low oil level,
pressure
sensor
or some ones put cracked oil filter cap. I know my cap is broken on the inside , the little pieces that form the ring at the top are broke,
a bit like this ,.
but real oem are showing a cap like this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Genui...~sf5:rk:4:pf:0

mines like the picture below , I cant see that causing low pressure surly?
any ideas?

Those tabs are really just there to draw the oil filter out of the housing making it easier to remove not to mention draw the filter up while unthreading to allow oil in there to drain out so you don't make a big mess. The best way to check oil pressure would be to remove the oil pressure sender and install an oil pressure gauge. If it shows low on that you know you have an issue. GL

just been having a peruse on the tinterwebs on oil.
high mileage ll04, I need, so I looked at the actual oil I got in at the mo ,
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Combi-LL-...ZuC:rk:28:pf:0

I have used this oil on 2 separate times, and come to think on it , ive had 2 instances on the oil pressure being low (warning light) stevies wondering that this oil I'm using isn't either good enough or suitable for the 160k smiles lump on my shed
opinons?

We don’t get that brand over here that I know of or really don’t want to know of. BMW wants Castrol so I don’t really have a problem with that so Castrol it is. I personally use 5W40 in the 4.8is, 4.8i and our 600SL for that matter. Mobil 1 makes a high mile 10W40 I have used in a few of our Mercedes over the years.

If your owner's manual specifics LL04 (which I believe it would), it's like a 5W30 viscosity. Aside what you will check, you could also move to 10W40 or 5W40. I'm not familiar with the specific brand you referenced - I would recommend Motul, LiquiMoly, Amsoil or Motorex.

On my kid's 180k 3.0L the last indie put in Motul 8100 and I swear to God that car has not run so well in years. Smoother through the rev range and consumption has dropped from 1 qt per 750 to 1 qt per 1200. I was shocked because I don't believe in all the intrawebz engine oil sorcery. I can only tell you that I'm gonna keep putting Motul into that car because it's not much more money from Amazon and I'm plenty happy never to have to go to Walmart again. Was previously using whatever valvoline oil is BMW acceptable.

you know this car just keeps on giving,
washed car. drove home , parked up , turned car off as normal. to find the rev counter stuck on at 2k temp gauge at middle and petrol gauge showing 1/4 , radio still on , was on computer so no actual radio station on, central locking not working ,went round back to find brake lights on , no fronts though which is a bonus, though nope that's not right, removed battery terminal left it a few minutes reconnected it, and it sorted itself out ,
got you gotta love these things
