Greetings again, another month, another new code. This one is P2610 and came up with a description of "ECM/PCM Internal Engine Off Timer Performance"
Usually I consult this forum and take my time to research a new code but unfortunately I don't have that luxury this time. My wife and I are moving across the country and had planned to head out in the X5 tomorrow morning (~16hrs from now). Am I insane to drive this thing ~2700 miles in the next four days without digging into this particular issue?
Brief history, I was recently getting a P1434 code and replaced the DMTL pump about two weeks ago, which resolved that. I've observed nothing out of the norm since. Battery and alternator are both less than 6 months old. In the little info I can find on the P2610 code online I did see some references to emissions but it was not clear if this could be related to the DMTL pump. Overall I have very little to go on.
A Bimmerfest post provides this insight:
The Engine Control Module (ECM) (actually its called the Digital Motor Electronics or DME) contains a timer and measures time between an ignition switch OFF and the next ignition switch ON. This enables the judging of the state of engine cooling at an engine start.
Advice welcome on what you guys would do in my situation. I tried my Indy but his shop is closed today. Thanks in advance for any insight.
