Thumbs up First Xpost Message, Second X5

Hi everyone, I needed to introduce myself/jump in because I soon will have questions to ask!

I first picked up a used E53 X5 last April, The vehicle had been around but was a sturdy vehicle that never failed me. I found it was being used as my daily driver while the M3s sat in the garage.

Over time, I desired a nicer copy and stumbled upon this nicely optioned, 2001 E53 manual trans X5. 127k miles. Engine performs well and no serious problems so far. It drives like a dream and appears to be a Maui car, being here it's entire life. I have since sold the first X5 and am spending time and a few dollars on this one pictured below.

The various issues have included the pullies, tensioners and belts, window clips on DS front (fun time) and many little things. OFHG is on the list as is wheel speed sensors and shifter refresh, either UUC's kit or just replacement of some of the worn bits.

I look forward to sharing my experiences and if I have anything helpful, it will be forthcoming.

Welcome! That's quite the garage you have. I am envious. I lived on Oahu for 7 years, military brat. made it to the Big Island many times but never to Maui.

Had to sell my 3 e30's when the kids came. Unfortunately I sold 2 of them before they skyrocketed in value. What's under the cover, if you don't mind me asking.

The two car garage is jammed with M3s. E30, E46 and under the cover is a euro powered, six speed E36 M3. 63k mile, as I recall.

But the X5 has been keeping me entertained these days. Haha

Must be a Maui car, no heated seats. The tensioner is probably a mechanical tensioner. You can upgrade to a hydraulic tension. Welcome to the site.

You are correct, no heated seats nor are they needed at my elevation. It came with the Climate Package and Sport Package. Seems like the vehicle was ordered exactly as the owner wanted it. It suits me fine.

Pulleys, tensioners, etc was my first job. I have forgotten which it was, but a pulley was quite irritatingly loud.

Now your site as well!

Your picture shows the standard X5 excessive camber on the rear so you may want to rebuild that rear suspension to avoid the wear on the inside of those rear tires. A lot of information here on that issue.
