First BMW - 3.0i manual

Just picked up my first BMW. Was looking at manual Cayennes since I've owned many VWs and Audis, but this one came up locally. Needed to sell my TT and get something that could tow a trailer to the kart track.

I've been 'binge lurking' for the last week to learn enough to order the parts needed to get it into good shape

2001 X5 3.0i with 5-speed manual
-blue with black leather
-200K miles
-sports package (seats, rear levelling)
-tow package
-extendable cargo floor
-PDC
-cold-weather (heated seats front and rear, no steering wheel though)
-rear heat controls

Originally had NAV, voice, hifi audio, telephone and rear-seat DVD. but it has aftermarket head unit now (unfortunately not the android version), with some crossovers in the rear

-needs CCV --> smelling oil vapours
-also fuel trim code, but possibly related. will change fuel filter regardless
needs rear shocks.. or a RR bag. seems to be a bit random but occasionally has massive squirm in the rear over a bump
-dead key battery
-a few funky door handles
-dash wood is all cracked
-been resprayed, and front end collision damage evident
-pixel issues on climate controls

Welcome. All easy fixes. The rear/front suspension more than likely needs a refresh along with the frame bushings. Again all posted DIYs so you are in good shape.

Welcome! I tow a 3,000 lb camper trailer with a very similar rig. Mine is the same colors, but no sport package (i.e. no airbags to replace). I've been very impressed with its towing ability. I put a tekonsha P3 brake controller in last year and it's just a very capable hauler. I have to downshift a lot on steep grades in the mountains, but that's my only bad thing to say about it.

As a stick shift snob, I couldn't be happier. Good luck with all your troubleshooting!

I'll tell you this, I'd buy a BMW with 200 before I would keep a modern VAG product past 150.

Wish I had heated seats and the tow package. You will be happy with those.

I thought I might find a PO on here! Paid $4k and came with an extra set of blizzak snows, spent about $600 so far and probably another $500 to go.

Did you do any of the the audio work on it? looks like someone had an amp in there at one point and there are still crossovers bypassing the DSP. Speakers are driven by the aftermarket head unit now.

I paid $1800 for it and it needed work. Then it went to Charbel in Michigan. He painted it and cleaned it up. He may have done the stereo. Its nice to have the factory hitch. It was a good runner when I had it. Hope you enjoy it.
