06 4.8is Air Susoension Problems

I have been going through the forums but have not encountered anyone with the same problem as me.



I recently replaced the front right bag on the car and have been having problems with the SLS inactive warning. I believe it was from wonky ride heights at each wheel. I was trying to calibrate the heights with the foxwell nt510 tool. As I was going through the process the car started to raise really high and the three level indicator lights on the up/down switch began flashing. It then lowered the car all the way. The pump in the back turns on for a few seconds and then turns off repeatedly but the car does not rise. I tried disconnecting the battery but when I reconnect it its the same. When I pull the key out the three lights are still flashing.



This guy posted a video with the exact same problem as me but I don't see that he was able to work out a solution

before i start, i want to say, i'm parting out my 03 4.4i with two axle air suspension with ride height button.

i tell everyone who has SLS issue to do the follow:

1. check the ride height sensors on all four wheels to see if its broken
2. check the suspension fuses in trunk and glove box
3. check for leaks in bags - listen
4. check the pump and see if it starts up when you turn the car on

if all of the above check out, then use inpa to read the error, it could be in transport mode. and you simply have to get it out of that mode. or you made have a major issue somewhere.

but like i said, i have the parts, let me know if you need anything.

I’d suggest you’re probably in transport mode and going nowhere until you get it out. I’m not sure if the Foxwell can reset the EHCII module but that’s where I would start. I use ISTA to do that but it requires a laptop, cable and software to do that. Do you have an Indi that can reset it for you?

i believe you can get it out of transport mode with inpa or other software.

Thanks for the advice and I had another question. None of the indys were any help so I just ordered the bimmergeeks pro-K+DCAN cable. What software should I download and from where can I download from? I have a e39 as well the e53 I am working on right now.

When I experienced the Suspension inactive message repeatedly even after hearing the pump start and then very soon thereafter stop, even after all new bags at all 4 corners (they needed them anyway) and bagpiping' Andy's piston repair.

I finally resorted to a complete cylinder head unit from the Chinese.

My cylinder head bore was scored pretty badly and even with a new piston ring it was not able to seal and make pressure. I believe there is both a pressure sensor and a temp sensor in the pump system to save the motor/pump in the event of some pump malfunction which is what shuts the pump down very soon after initiating.

After installing the new cylinder head, all became right with the dual axle air suspension and pump. No more errors and rise and lower on command.

It could be what's ailing yours





There is a spring in the assembly that picks up moisture from the pressure/temp changes/condensation that you'll want to lube if you still have any of it left.



If you have a high mileage suspension pump, knowing what I know now, I would go straight to this and skip the Bagpiping' Andy solution and get the whole thing here
