E70 rear wiper upgrade question?

I have had this upgrade for quite some time now when I change the wiper because it was bad. The new wiper leave spots w/o cleaning, so I thought it was that the wiper did not work well with the wiper arm. Fast forward to today, I received the new wiper arm with the installed it and guess what... the same thing... still have a part w/o being clean. I bend the spring to see if it wasn't making the necessary pressure to the glass, it got a bit better but still have the middle of the glass not being clean.

Anyone of you with the E70 rear wiper upgrade has this problem? How did you fix it? Thanks for any help.

I was going to do the E70 swap but I just grabbed a Michelin wiper from Costco and slapped it on. No skips, even at the top by the CHMSL. Saved myself some $$$.

I have no issue...but didn't need to "bend" or manipulate the spring. When you install the e70 rear wiper arm on the spindle...you can put pressure in that location and it will start to "flatten" the wiper blade (which puts more pressure on the blade)...I then tightened the nut down on the wiper arm.

I took some pics the other day (Wed) when it was raining and was going to upload them onto another thread at a later date. But will upload them here to show the "sweep" of the e70 rear wiper arm & blade on the e53 rear tailgate glass.

Yep, same here - pressure on the spindle while installing the wiper does the trick.

I have long updated the rear wiper that was not an option for me.

I gave that a try and nothing, I took out the arm again and heated the spring so that it didn't break, bend it some more, and put pressure on the spindle then it works.

Thank for your help guys.

How much was the Michelin wiper from Costco? Only asking because the e70 wiper + blade can be had for $15 on eBay, now. Unlike years ago where it costs from $75+ to do this modification. In fact, now...its about the same price to get the whole shebang vs just replacing the blade.

To the OP...glad it all sorted out...thanks for the update.

andrewwynn will become famous soon enough
I installed the E70 upgrade on wife's and my X5. Her's is skipping in the middle and mine is not. I'm quite sure i had the wiper lifted off so no torque on the spindle while installing both, but because of the skipping on wife's i added a little more bend to the spring on mine before installing and mine doesn't skip.

I did notice that wife's goes a little too far counter clockwise and parks around the bend of the glass; this might be putting a dent in the blade so i will be fixing that as well.

The E70 has a smaller blade and doesn't clear as high up but i don't care i'd rather have a working wiper than have the top 1" clear and the bottom 17" not clear!

I will try just doing the spring tweak on wife's and report back what are the results .
