From everything I have read, the Foxwell will NOT code the SAS. But, I have been proven wrong before. My creator is saying that my SAS has fault. I have refrained from changing it due to not wanting to deal with the coding process. I am following this thread to see if you guys are able to do this.

Thanks for that insight wpoll!

In that case, I did not change anything related to that, only disconnected the battery and changed the clock spring and steering wheel.

All steering wheel buttons function normally, except cruise control does not activate, which I understand is related to the trifecta of systems being disabled.

And again, I can watch the real data stream output of the SAS and straight ahead of wheels and steering wheel are dead nuts on 0°.

Still hunting for a Foxwell NT510 to give the SAS calibration function a shot.

And it's "lots of fun" to replace.

This thread is confusing. I went back and re-read the OP, and I think he's working on a sedan rather than an E53. If so, check out E90post, as it's a popular 3-series forum.

As others have pointed out, the SAS on an e53 is a plastic stand-alone module that slips over the steering column under the dash. I have no idea if an E90 is the same.

Thanks AM.

I'm sorry for posting my E90 issue here. I was just trying to locally source a Foxwell NT510 scanner in the DFW Xoutpost community.

This is as good a place as any to ask such a question.

Looking deeper, the SAS on the E90 may be very different from the E53. This document infers that it is an optical unit (not mechanical) and may be in the stalk cluster...

Thanks AM. That's what I originally thought that it was a good place to seek help since I am a more active member here at Xoutpost.

I just returned from my German Indy guy and his Big Boy pro scanner quickly saw the issue and he proceeded to "calibrate" the SAS to the vehicle and cleared all codes and that seems to have resolved my trifecta of DSC, 4x4 and brake warning lights. So far in the 8 mile drive back from his place all is well.

He laughed when I asked him if he had a Foxwell NT510 and said: "I don't have that but I have something that is probably 100X better."

His scanner was a tablet format that had a wireless module that connected to the OBD port and sent the into to his control tablet

A very reasonable fee was charged and I tipped him 3 six-packs of his favorite, Coors Banquet bottles

His choice works for me!

I'm just thrilled with him being there and getting me on his scanner straight away. You just don't find these types of shops and people too often anymore.
