Vacuum(?) line...where does it go?

So while pulling the oil dipstick I found a hard plastic vacuum/emissions line that seems to be broken, but I can't find where it attaches. It comes up from under the car, following the fuel line and clips into the dipstick tube at the same place where the fuel line does. It comes up and 180s back down just above the fuel line. This line doesn't seem to be on my diagram, or I'm confusing it for another line. I figure it's probably part of the EVAP, but I'm not sure. Thanks

Just a diff vent tube. Supposed to be there and open.

You know I thought about that at first and then passed it off, figuring they wouldn't use a high mount vent.

Common feature on all cars. The clue is that the open end is facing downward - so things don't fall in there. Differentials and transmissions need these to allow for expanding and contracting air to come and go as the temperature goes up and down.

Yeah just wasn't expecting to see it as this is really just an over-sized AWD car, and you can barely get manufacturers to put high mount vents on trucks marketed for off-road use. I mostly see the "jiggle" vent just popped into the top of a diff or trans. Also it landed reasonably close(~2") to a vacuum port on the intake that someone has put a poorly fitting bright red cap onto. Since the vent tube has a broken hook and an obvious prior repair(red cap) i thought maybe A went with B, but found that the port should be capped. This is probably one of the most poorly maintained vehicles I've seen in a good while, so "craptstic prior fix" has become my default setting. On the up side I think my wife has learned not to make anymore spontaneous automotive purchases.
