Oh, my bad - I assumed the pic you posted was what you initially got from Avin.

I completed the install yesterday (ran along door, removed pins instead of cut). Found a novel gap under the back seats to run the wires instead of through the rear quarter panel.
The car had the rear camera factory fitted and I have not been able to get it working with the Avant4. Has anyone installed the Avant4 under these circumstances and got the original camera working? My belief is that the rear camera signal travels via the two fakra connectors coming out of the TV Tuner box and were plugged into the original head unit...these cables are no longer used. Ideally I want to use the existing camera not buy and replace with new. |

After have another looked I think I have found a minimal effort solution.
The current reverse camera goes to the TV Tuner box under the spare wheel (on the right hand side, four additional screws have to come out to lift the whole 'computer compartment'). There exists two connectors, blue and white, which will have the camera cable (black wrapped) spliced into them. Tracing this cable back you can identify several other cables running up the right hand side compartment box (near fuse box) and a green wire running to tail gate. A twisted pair is running to pin 13 and 14 on the white connector, this is the video signal. In the ideal world I would run a cable to the dash and connect this pair. The car will continue to enable/disable the camera with the existing wiring. Since I just put the car back together I am going to try a wireless transmitter first like the one below. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1429908937.html Hopefully this helps someone. |

Has anyone successfully mounted the reverse camera license plate light that Avin sells? They don't sell it for the E53, but told me it should work with some modificaiton

Keep in mind the LEDs will be lit whenever the camera is powered. If you are planning on recording the rear cam at all times with a DVR app, the LEDs will always be on. I just use a $16 cam running whenever the AVIN is on.

Yes. If you look for my avin2 install thread, you'll find the details. "With some modification" is a ridiculous understatement. It was at my recommendation years ago that they removed the e53 from the fitment list for that camera. And yes, you will only want it powered when in reverse as OB states. LEDs will be lit anytime the radio is on otherwise.

Hi All - this a great (and long) thread. From what I can tell, is it necessary to take apart the panels and route the wiring to the rear of the car if you just have DSP, but no NAV?

Yes. You will have most of what you need up front. Only thing to route would be backup camera wiring and possibly aftermarket amplifier wiring if you wanted to add those later.

Many thanks, crystalworks! Didn't know if it would be a huge undertaking (my first install of a headunit), seems like it'll be easy; plug and play!
