Looks like your living the dream! I’m sure it’s a lot of hard work and takes a toll on you and the family but I’d love to be that involved with race cars. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing the pics.

So it's installed and working. Still tweaking settings to my liking but so far it has been fairly straight forward. It did take me a while to figure out the i-Bus app was not already installed and changing navigation settings to use the i-Go maps was not clear but figured it out in the end. Things like sound volume when reversing took some time as well. The only thing I have to figure out is when it starts the i-Bus app needs to start for the DSP to work and wish I could have it do this in the background. It boots, switches to the i-Bus app and remains the active screen. I have to hit the home button to get back to where I want to start from.

I have it mounted but I have not snapped the frame on completely so it may look a little odd when you look at the image. I want to make sure I don't have to pull it back out for anything yet.

Both cameras are working fine, I powered my rear cam from the camera B+ wire on the Avant-4 harness that powers up from KL-R and KL-15 so it is powered the same as the USB HD front camera. Went in the app and watched some playbacks from my test drive. Front and rear videos look great.

Coded the DRL halos right away and also add comfort blink (3), IKE welcome message and cornering lights.

I also used all the various pigtail harnesses for the Avant-4 just because that was a good place to store them. If I didn't place them on the back of the unit, I would surely have a senior moment and forget where I put them. Proper wire management and plenty of room so it just made sense to me.

More to come...

PS. Not the best weekend in Mid-Ohio. Our championship car spun going into turn 1 at the start and needed a tow out from emergency vehicle and put us 2 laps down. No coming back from that but the second car won the Bronze Cup class so we salvaged the weekend...

Good news! Still need to do something for a front cam in mine... and add the iBus interface. Stupid bathroom remodel is taking all of my extra time/energy.

So you ended up not using the PDC trigger setup then. Or did you still use it, but only as a trigger for the rear cam and not for the power?

No trigger needed with the CAN bus adapter. I didn't have to do anything other than power the rear cam from the head unit and plug in the USB and rear camera RCA jack coming from the front camera USB harness and both cameras worked straight away. It automatically switches to the rear camera view in reverse. My guess the CAN bus adapter knows when reverse is active.

Well. That's good news then for Avin owners. I almost wonder if my Android head unit does the same? Almost...

Let me know if you have an issue with the USB pig tails corrupting USB sticks. Mouse's keeps doing it. He's tried all sorts of formats, Fat, Fat32, NTFS to no avail. Works for a bit, then corrupts. We installed the extension pig tail from the old Avant 2 setup though so maybe it's not compatible with the 4 for some reason? Told him to try direct to the head unit's pigtail and see if it changes.

Congrats on the hardware BTW.

I think any android system with the BMW CAN bus adapter knows when reverse is active. I argued with the AVIN phone support jockey about why it needed an additional signal when the CAN bus adapter already knew. He said their system didn't work that way. Now we know he was full of ****, just as I expected.

Got a chance to calibrate and test the Avin Avant-4 DDVR-2 camera system Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) app. The lane departure and collision avoidance work really good but I had to turn the sound notification off as some sweet Chinese lady was screaming at me. I hope future software releases will allow for English and the ability to choose normal beep notifications.
