I've ordered a new Hella TÖNS to swap in.
You mean the oil level sensor at the bottom of the pan? It has a temp sensor ability too?. Kindly update on your findings after the swap.

Yep - that's the sensor the app dev says provides the temp. I know E38/E39 with the M62 do get temp from it so it would make sense for the E53 to also work. We'll see after the part gets delivered. Should be easy enough to test w/o actually swapping.

I replaced the sensor this weekend with an OE Hella. Oil temp is working after the replacement.

Very cool! Info on where sensor was purchased and pics of temp in the dash or IBUS app would be incredible! Thanks!

It's the oil level sensor in the bottom of the oil pan. This is the part for the M62 and M54. The N62 uses a different part number, but it has a very similar sensor.

If you have an LCMIV, it needs to be selected in the OBC oil temp settings. I had reinstalled my iBus app while waiting for the part and had no oil temp after installing the new sensor. The app was defaulted to LCMIII.

Awesome! Thanks for the pic! Hhhmm, earlier you'd said you upgraded your LCM from LCMIII to LCMIV but temp still didn't show. Could it have been it's just that the IBusApp was at the default setting of LCMIII and you didn't really need to upgrade the oil level sensor? I wonder if all I need to do is to verify that my IBus app setting is correct. In any case, Hella does not make N62 engine oil level sensor - looked at both FCPEuro and Hella website. FCPEuro has OEM and Vemco oil level sensor for the N62 engine. Not sure if Vemco will fix the display in case I needed to upgrade the oil level sensor.

When I was trying to get it to work a few weeks back, I changed my settings to LCMIV but it still didn't work. That's what made me decide to try replacing the level sensor.

Might be worth checking in your case. I'm fairly sure it defaults to LCMIII.

I just installed the new Resler USB IBUS interface and the updated app. The setting was already on LCMIV but still no oil temp. I've placed an order for the Vemo oil level sensor from FCPEuro. It's actually more expensive than BMW OEM.

Hopefully it'll show the oil temp - fingers crossed. If not, at least I will get my money back. I'll just do a quick swap (without actually installing it in the sump) and see if it registers oil temp.

I have a 4.8is N62 and Oil temp has never worked for me either. I have spent so much time testing different combinations of settings with no good results.

i have tried LCM IV, Kombi and all other settings but nothing. My oil temp needle gauge in the 4.8is cluster works just fine.

of the people saying it DOES work for them, im curious if its mainly the M54 people and the M62 people that it works for but possibly ythe N62 uses a different configuration that ibus isnt compatible with,.

so is there any N62 4.8is owners that have working oil temp in ibus app?

Never worked for me on mine. If you figure it out, post it up. Would help many N62 owners.
