Is it double lip or just o-ring?

I did not find a seal available separately.
You could try flipping the seal over so the new surface seals better. For bonus points, some Permatex UltraBlack on the back side (formerly the front side, before th flip) to fill in any cracks might help too. I've done that sort of repair on many seals when it is not sold individually, or when I need an immediate fix.

might have to try the permatex solution. I checked out the promising ebay part but the shipping is...wait for it...$31.50! lol! but I don't think that's the biggest issue, which was the fact that my year is not listed among the compatible models.

andrew which cap? did you buy oem or one of the aftermarket? frankly, while I am waiting, the doubled over plastic grocery bag seal cleared up the code and is handling the challenge just fine. although somehow it is probably not safe or something like that.
I know $35 isn't the end of the world but I guarantee this is one of those situations where I am going to be tempted to not throw away the old part simply because there is really nothing wrong with it and it is Genuine BMW. it's a weird thing with me....like getting rid of control arms when the bushings go, lol! if you don't though, you'll end up with your own junkyard, right in the garage.
